Hunter

The Hunter division is a branch of horse show competition that is judged on the horses performance, soundness, confirmation, suitability or manners, the rider’s style and the horse’s overall impression. In the Hunter discipline, the horse and rider jump a course which is all about style, grace and manners; the emphasis is not on speed. Wynbrook Equestrian Centre is proud to offer this discipline for our show team.

  • About the Hunter Discipline

Hunter horses must have a good jumping technique, be calm, obedient, and have a well-mannered temperament. Hunter horses are trained to approach the jumps slowly and steadily, maintaining an even pace between the jumps. They are also judged on their form and style, with extra points for the horse’s ability to keep a consistent pace and rhythm. Hunter horses must have an excellent attitude, as they need to adapt to different types of courses and obstacles.

If you’re interested in trying Hunter riding, there are a few things you should keep in mind. First, it’s important to find a good instructor who can teach you the proper techniques. Second, it’s important to start slowly and gradually increase the height of the jumps as you and your horse become more comfortable with the sport. With a little patience and practice, you’ll be on your way to becoming a successful Hunter rider.

  • Efficient and Comfortable Gaits

If you're looking for an efficient and comfortable way to ride, hunter gaits are a great option. Hunter gaits are specially designed to be smooth and comfortable, making them ideal for long rides. They also tend to be relatively fast, which can help you cover ground quickly. While there are many different hunter gaits, the three most common are the walk, trot, and canter.

The walk is the slowest of the three, but it's also the most comfortable. The trot is a bit faster, and it can be helpful for covering more ground. The canter is the fastest of the three, making it ideal for covering large distances quickly. No matter which gait you choose, hunter riding is a great way to enjoy a comfortable and efficient ride.

  • A Good, Safe Jumping Style

Jumping is one of the most exhilarating aspects of riding. It takes skill, practice, and courage to ride over a fence, and the feeling of clearing a jump is like nothing else. However, many riders are hesitant to try jumping because they are concerned about safety.

Hunter riding is a good, safe jumping style that can help riders to build confidence and skill. In hunter riding, horses are ridden at a moderate pace over jumps that are relatively low. This slower pace gives riders more time to react and adjust their position if necessary.

Additionally, the lower jumps mean that there is less risk of injury if a horse should happen to stumble or fall. As a result, hunter riding is an excellent way for riders to safely learn the basics of jumping. With practice, riders will be able to graduate to taller fences and faster speeds. But even beginners can enjoy the thrill of jumping while staying safe with hunter riding.

  • About Show Jumping

Show jumping is a sport in which riders must navigate their horses over a series of jumps without any faults in the fastest time possible. It is a fast-paced and thrilling sport that requires both horse and rider to be in top form.

The courses are often challenging, and the slightest mistake can result in a knocked-down rail or a refusal at a jump. This makes show jumping one of the most exciting sports to watch.

Riders must possess nerves of steel and a strong bond with their horses in order to succeed. If you're looking for an adrenaline-pumping spectator sport, show jumping is definitely the one for you.

  • Speed and Agility

Jumper riding is a demanding sport that requires both speed and agility.

Riders must be able to navigate their horses over a complex course of jumps, while at the same time maintaining control and avoiding knocking down any rails. As a result, it takes a great deal of skill and practice to excel in jumper riding. However, the rewards can be well worth the effort. Jumper riders often enjoy a sense of satisfaction and accomplishment that comes from successfully negotiating a tricky course.

In addition, jumper riding can be an exhilarating experience, as riders experience the rush of adrenaline that comes with clearing each jump. For those who are willing to put in the time and effort, jumper riding can be a truly rewarding experience.

  • Boldness and Athleticism

If you're looking for an equestrian discipline that requires both boldness and athleticism, jumper riding is a perfect fit.

Jumper courses typically involve a series of individual and combined jumps that require split-second timing and nerves of steel. As a result, jumper riders need to be in peak physical condition and have the ability to think clearly under pressure.

In addition, jumper riders must be willing to take risks; even the best riders will occasionally come up against a jump that they're not sure they can make. If you're looking for an exciting and challenging equestrian sport, jumper riding is the way to go.
